Sree Ayyappa
Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Ayyappa, an avatar of Sree Maha Vishnu.
The original name Arayan originated from Arayappa, which later evolved into Ayyappa.
At Sabariala, during Pallivetta Kaattunnathayi (the proclamation of the Pallivetta hunt), these hunting calls reveal that that the name of the Lord is Arayan Keralan.
The Arayan period is recorded as 1155 CE to 1170 CE.
When Adharma reached its peak, Maha Vishnu manifested as Arayan (Ayyappa) to restore Dharma and defeated Udhyanan, sources trace Udhyanan’s lineage to Diti, linking him in Puranic tradition to the lineage of Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu.
Bhagwan Ayyappa was born into the Vellalar clan, a lineage associated with deep connections to the Yadu Vamsha of Bhagwan Sree Krishna of Dwarka.
He was known as Ayyan/ariyan/arayan, a respectful term for a lord, belonging to the Vellalar clan.
Sree Arayan/Ayyappa was born in Kumbha Maasam under Uthara Nakshatram.
Bhagwan Ayyappa has a deep connection with the birth Rasi of Bhagwan Sree Krishna, reflecting the spiritual lineage of the Yadu Vamsha of Dwarka and the influence of Planet Jupiter (Guru).
Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa’s abode is regarded as the Moksha Sthanam of Sabari, where Bhagwan Sree Rama granted her Moksha, as described in the Ramayana.
Poonambalamedu is considered the Moolasthanam of Bhagwan Ayyappa, where the Lakshmi Narayana (Maha Vishnu) Chakra with the Malayalam OM Bijaksharam is located. For more information, refer to the ARAYAN book.
