New Specialty Hospital in Nilakkal to Serve Sabarimala Pilgrims and Locals


Pathanamthitta: In a significant step toward enhancing healthcare services in the region, a new state-of-the-art specialty hospital is set to be established in Nilakkal, Pathanamthitta district. Health Minister Veena George announced that the facility is designed to serve both the local population and the large number of pilgrims visiting the Sabarimala temple each year.


The hospital will be constructed on land allocated by the Devaswom Board, with an estimated budget of ₹9 crore. During a recent review meeting, the Chief Minister assured that additional funds would be allocated if necessary to ensure the timely completion of the project.


This modern healthcare center will integrate allopathic medicine with Ayush practices, offering a comprehensive range of medical services. Special provisions will be made during the pilgrimage season to meet the unique medical needs of devotees.


According to Media Reports, The hospital complex will be spread over three floors, each equipped with advanced medical infrastructure:

Ground Floor: A 12-bed casualty unit, outpatient departments, a 7-bed observation ward, reception area, laboratory, sample collection center, nurses’ station, injection room, ECG and dressing rooms, plaster room, pharmacy, storage area, police help desk, lifts, and restrooms.

First Floor: An 8-bed ICU, nurses’ station, minor operation theater, X-ray room, a 13-bed ward, doctors' and nurses' rooms, a conference hall, administrative office, and restrooms.

Second Floor: A 50-bed dormitory to accommodate patients and their accompanying visitors.

This initiative marks a major advancement in healthcare infrastructure for the region. By addressing both emergency and routine medical needs, especially during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season, the hospital is set to significantly improve access to quality healthcare in this strategically important location.
