Mystery Armed Gang Sparks Fear in Sabarimala Forest Villages

Pathanamthitta – An unidentified armed group has alarmed residents along Sabarimala’s forest borders, with frequent thefts of food and essentials from homes in Angamoozhi, Valooppara, Kochu Koyickal, and Gurunathan Mannu. Locals suspect the intruders, possibly hunters from Tamil Nadu, are targeting wildlife while breaking into houses, even in daylight.

“They smash doors and windows to steal rice, cooked food, and daily necessities,” a villager said. “We’re scared, especially at night.” The community fears ecological harm from potential illegal hunting in the biodiverse Sabarimala forest.

Despite reports, police and forest officials have not acted, frustrating residents. “We need patrols and an investigation now,” a local demanded. The situation highlights the need to protect both villagers and the forest’s ecosystem.

Authorities must urgently probe the group’s activities, secure the area, and restore peace to these vulnerable villages.
