Kerala High Court Closes Proceedings Against ADGP Ajith Kumar Over Sabarimala Tractor Travel

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has closed the proceedings initiated against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith Kumar for using a tractor to travel from Pampa to Sannidhanam during his Sabarimala pilgrimage.

Ajith Kumar had explained that he opted for the tractor ride due to health-related issues. Accepting his justification, the High Court decided to end the legal proceedings but issued a strong caution against repeating such actions in the future.

According to the court’s earlier order, tractors on the Swami Ayyappan Road are strictly meant for transporting goods, not for personal travel. The Sabarimala Special Commissioner had submitted a report to the High Court pointing out that the ADGP’s use of the tractor was a violation of the court's directive. This led the court to take up the matter on its own.

The court, while accepting the ADGP's explanation, emphasized that the misuse of vehicles on the sacred path should not recur. Meanwhile, the incident sparked a wider discussion, prompting the State Police Chief to seek clarification from the ADGP regarding the unusual travel choice.
