Sabarimala Ropeway Likely to Get Go-Ahead Soon
Pathanamthitta: The much-awaited Sabarimala ropeway project is finally showing signs of progress, with the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) granting approval for a field inspection ahead of final clearance.
Officials confirmed that the NBWL standing committee, which reviewed the proposal in its recent meeting in New Delhi based on the State Wildlife Board’s recommendation, has constituted a high-level team to visit the project site in the coming days.
The project is expected to secure its final clearance in the NBWL’s October meeting. This decision will also facilitate stage-one approval from the forest department, marking a crucial step toward implementation.
Originally proposed in 2011 under the supervision of the Sabarimala High-Power Committee, the ropeway project has faced repeated delays. The main hurdles stemmed from the forest department’s objections to large-scale earth removal and tree felling in the ecologically sensitive area.
