Sabarimala Ayyappa Yuva Seva Samithi

Free Physiotherapy Services for Ayyappa Devotees at Sannidhanam

Health workers are providing free physiotherapy services at the Sannidhanam to help Ayyappa devotees who experience physical strain after trekking the hill path. Devotees commonly suffer from muscle cramps, joint pain, sprains, and related issues due to the strenuous climb.

The physiotherapy centre at Sannidhanam is jointly operated by the Pathanamthitta Rehabilitation–Palliative Care Centre and the Indian Association of Physiotherapists. The centre has been functioning continuously at Sannidhanam for the past five years. Physiotherapists from various parts of the state are offering their services here on a voluntary basis, along with health workers from the National Health Mission.

According to S. Nishad, physiotherapist and in-charge of the centre, around 65,000 devotees received treatment during the Mandala season. After the opening of the temple for Makaravilakku, nearly 300 Ayyappa devotees have already been treated.

Many devotees arriving at Sannidhanam present conditions similar to sports injuries, such as muscle strain, sprains, and the need for muscle taping. These issues can often be relieved quickly through special stretching techniques without the use of medicines.

Nishad added that a list of health professionals willing to volunteer is prepared in advance, and appointments are made only after obtaining approval from the Health Department.

Working hours of the physiotherapy centre: 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
