Sabarimala Ready for Makaravilakku as Revenue Reaches ₹429 Crore

Sabarimala: Travancore Devaswom Board President K. Jayakumar said that tight security arrangements have been put in place at Sabarimala in connection with the Makaravilakku festival. He stated that more than 5.1 million devotees have visited Sabarimala so far this season, up to January 12, and that the temple has generated a revenue of ₹429 crore.

All preparations for Makaravilakku have been completed, Jayakumar said, adding that tight security has been deployed, including at the designated view points. A review meeting to assess this year’s pilgrimage season and to discuss preparations for the next year will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on February 6. Representatives of each department will be met separately to evaluate arrangements and performance.

He noted that this year, the general public was able to book rooms online without difficulty. The current Devaswom Board assumed charge under special circumstances, and as a result, people have high expectations from the Board this season.

Jayakumar also announced that sponsorship guidelines will be revised and that sponsors will be sought for essential requirements at Sabarimala. However, sponsors will no longer be allowed to undertake activities of their own choice at Sabarimala, and certain sponsors will no longer be permitted to operate there, he said.

Additionally, security audits will be conducted at all temples under the Travancore Devaswom Board. Valuable items will be catalogued and preserved with digital markings. The use of carbon-copy receipts will be discontinued, and all systems will be fully digitised, the Board President added.
