Scientific Tests Confirm Massive Gold Theft at Sabarimala

A scientific examination conducted by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) has found a reduction in the quantity of gold in the gold-plated layers at Sabarimala. The amount of gold currently present is less than what existed at the time the sanctum sanctorum was gold-plated in 1998. Significant differences in both the quantity and weight of gold have been identified, particularly in the layers covering the Dwarapalaka sculptures and the wooden frames (kattilapalli). The detailed findings of this examination have now been released.

VSSC used advanced technology that enables accurate determination of the structure and weight of the gold layers without removing or dismantling them.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will submit a progress report on the investigation to the High Court tomorrow. The report will include VSSC’s crucial findings regarding the reduction in gold. In light of these findings, the SIT will also inform the court about the manner in which the investigation should proceed further.

During the 41-day period from November 16 to December 27, a total of 13,675 packets of ghee went missing, resulting in a loss of ₹13 lakh from this alone. Preliminary findings indicate irregularities amounting to approximately ₹36 lakh. 33 people, including priests and staff members, have been named as accused in the case. Before the temple closes, the team investigating the gold theft case may also arrive to inspect the flag mast (Kodimaram)
