Steps Underway to Finalise Forest Land for Sabarimala Master Plan Projects

Pathanamthitta: Authorities have initiated steps to finalise the extent of forest land required for implementing infrastructure projects under the Sabarimala Master Plan. The initiative aims to improve basic facilities for pilgrims at key locations, including Sannidhanam, Pampa and Marakkoottam, by providing adequate resting spaces and essential amenities.

The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has announced that construction activities will commence immediately after the conclusion of the ongoing pilgrimage season.

As per existing norms, forest land identified for the projects will be compensated with an equivalent extent of revenue land. Key decisions in this regard were taken during a recent meeting held in the presence of the Forest Minister, with members of the TDB governing body in attendance.

It was also decided that forest land would not be used for constructing multi-storey buildings. The Board reiterated that its primary objective is to ensure maximum facilities for pilgrims while minimising environmental impact.

Meanwhile, reports from the expert committee appointed by the TDB to study the speedy implementation of the Sabarimala Master Plan are expected soon. Officials noted that resolving forest land clearance issues—considered a major obstacle so far—would help accelerate development activities in accordance with the Master Plan.
