Ghee Found on Gold-Plated Roof of Sabarimala Sanctum Shrine; Roof Washed After Inspection Identifies Cause of Discoloration

Pathanamthitta: Authorities have confirmed that ghee was found on the gold-plated roof of the shrine above the sanctum sanctorum at the Sabarimala temple. The affected areas, where discoloration was noticed, have since been washed and cleaned.

The color change on the gold-plated structure was detected on Tuesday. Following the discovery, senior officials, including the Thiruvabharanam Commissioner, arrived at the site and carried out a detailed inspection.

After the investigation, officials concluded that the discoloration was caused by ghee. It was found that some pilgrims from neighboring states had thrown ghee onto the roof while approaching the sanctum sanctorum.

With the permission of the Special Commissioner, temple authorities undertook cleaning operations and washed the roof on Wednesday. The affected portions were successfully cleaned, and the discoloration was addressed.

Authorities have not reported any structural damage to the gold-plated roof, but the incident has prompted increased vigilance in the area surrounding the sanctum sanctorum.
