Green Sabarimala Project Launched with Sapling Planting and Logo Release at Pampa

 

Pampa, June 14: As part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations, the 'Green Sabarimala' project was officially launched with a sapling planting ceremony held at the Pampa Triveni Mandapam on Sunday. The initiative, jointly implemented by the Forest Department and the Travancore Devaswom Board, aims to promote environmental protection and afforestation in the Pampa–Sannidhanam region.

The project envisions transforming Sabarimala into a more eco-friendly pilgrimage destination while spreading awareness about the importance of environmental conservation among devotees and the wider community. Through sustained afforestation efforts and community participation, the initiative seeks to preserve the ecological balance of the forested landscape surrounding the revered shrine.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri K. Jayakumar IAS, President of the Travancore Devaswom Board, Shri P.P. Pramod IFS, Field Director (Project Tiger), Periyar Tiger Reserve, and Adv. K. Raju, Member of the Travancore Devaswom Board. They emphasized the collective responsibility of protecting nature and highlighted the significance of adopting sustainable practices in ecologically sensitive pilgrimage centres such as Sabarimala.

The event also witnessed the active participation of forest officials, Devaswom Board representatives, and members of various Eco-Development Committees (EDCs). Among those present were Shri Sandeep S., Deputy Director, Periyar Tiger Reserve (West Division), Shri M.K. Mukesh, Pampa Range Forest Officer, and Shri Anil Chakravarthy, Sannidhanam Deputy Range Forest Officer.

In conjunction with the sapling planting drive, the official logo of the 'Green Sabarimala' project was unveiled during the ceremony, symbolising the initiative's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development in the sacred hill shrine region.
