Sabarimala Temple to Celebrate Niraputhari Mahotsavam on August 3
Sabarimala, Kerala: The sacred hill shrine of Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Swamy Temple will celebrate the revered Niraputhari Mahotsavam on August 3, from 5:40 a.m. to 6:20 a.m., on the auspicious Uthrittathi Nakshatram in Karkidakam Rashi.
The Sabarimala Sannidhanam will open at 5:00 p.m. on August 2 and close at 10:00 p.m. on August 3 in connection with the Niraputhari Mahotsavam celebrations.
The Niraputhari Mahotsavam symbolizes the offering of newly harvested rice and paddy to Lord Ayyappa as an expression of gratitude for a prosperous harvest season. The term Niraputhari is derived from two Malayalam words — Nira, meaning “abundance” or “fullness,” and Puthari, meaning “new rice.”
During the ritual, freshly harvested paddy crop is ceremonially offered before Lord Ayyappa, invoking blessings for agricultural prosperity, abundance, and the well-being of devotees. Following the sacred offering, the blessed paddy crop will be distributed among devotees as prasadam, allowing them to partake in the divine blessings associated with the festival.
Traditionally observed during the Malayalam month of Karkidakam, often known as the Ramayana Month, the festival holds special religious significance. Karkidakam is considered a highly auspicious period dedicated to spiritual reflection, devotional practices, and temple observances across Kerala.
