Heavy Rain Damages Sabarimala Swami Ayyappan Road; Power Lines Snapped
Pathanamthitta, Kerala: Heavy rainfall & strong winds caused extensive damage along the Sabarimala Swami Ayyappan Road, with trees and large branches falling onto the road and snapping power lines.
As a precaution, authorities stopped the movement of pilgrims from Pamba to Sannidhanam during the night to ensure their safety.
Emergency workers removed the fallen trees and repaired the damaged power lines overnight. By this morning, the trekking path had been cleared, and pilgrim movement resumed at around 9:00 AM.
The weather has improved considerably, with no rainfall reported for the past hour and sunshine breaking through.
However, authorities continue to urge caution as the Moozhiyar Dam has been placed on Red Alert.
In view of the continuing heavy rainfall and the Orange Alert issued for Pathanamthitta district, authorities have advised devotees to avoid travelling to Sabarimala until weather conditions improve. With the risk of flash floods, rising river levels, and possible landslides, pilgrims are urged to postpone their pilgrimage and strictly follow the advisories issued by the district administration, police, and disaster management authorities.
