Police Officer Dies While Undergoing Treatment After Collapsing During Sabarimala Duty at Nilakkal
Pathanamthitta: A 41-year-old police officer who suffered serious injuries after collapsing while on duty at Nilakkal in connection with the Sabarimala Niraputhari festival died on Sunday.
Senior Civil Police Officer (Grade) Mohammad Shafeeq, who had been serving at the Pathanamthitta Police Control Room, collapsed after suffering a seizure at Nilakkal on August 3. He sustained serious injuries in the fall and was immediately taken to a private medical college hospital in Thiruvalla.
Shafeeq remained under treatment at the hospital and died at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
His body was kept for public viewing at the police camp at the Pathanamthitta Police Headquarters. It was later taken to his residence at Anappara in Pathanamthitta. His burial will be held on Monday.
Shafeeq had been serving at the Pathanamthitta Police Control Room for a long period. His father, Mohammad Shareef, had also served as a Sub-Inspector at various police stations in Pathanamthitta district.
The death of the police officer has been mourned by colleagues and senior police officials, who expressed condolences to his family.
