Government to Take Further Steps if SIT Misses Sabarimala Gold Case Chargesheet Deadline

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Devaswom and Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said on Friday that the state government will take further steps if the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Sabarimala gold loss cases fails to file the chargesheet within the deadline set by the Kerala High Court.
The SIT is investigating two cases related to the alleged loss of gold from the Dwarapalaka (guardian deity) idol and the doorframes of the Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) at Sabarimala.
The SIT had earlier informed the Kerala High Court that its investigation into the loss of gold from the Sreekovil doorframes was almost complete. The court subsequently directed the investigation team to complete the necessary proceedings and file the chargesheet within the stipulated deadline.
The minister has also sought legal advice from the Advocate General regarding the steps to be taken if the SIT fails to meet the court-mandated deadline.
The case involves 15 accused, including former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) officials. Prosecution sanction is required for 13 of the accused, with the proposal needing scrutiny by the Home Department, Devaswom Department, and Law Department before the chargesheet can be filed.
