Three Injured in Separate Accidents on Mundakkayam–Koruthodu Sabarimala Route
Kottayam: Three people, including a district panchayat member, were injured in three separate accidents reported at different locations along the Mundakkayam–Koruthodu Sabarimala route on Saturday.
The first major accident occurred around 4 pm near the Thekku Kooppu area at Vandanpathal. A vehicle carrying Sabarimala pilgrims collided with a vehicle belonging to the S.N.D.P. Highrange Union.
P. Giraj, a district panchayat member and secretary of the S.N.D.P. Highrange Union, and Babu Idayadikkuzhi, president of the Highrange Union, were injured in the accident. Babu Idayadikkuzhi, who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to a hospital in Kottayam for specialised treatment.
The second accident occurred around 4:30 pm near Koruthodu Junction. Pappi, a local resident of Koruthodu who was selling lottery tickets along the road, was hit by a vehicle carrying Sabarimala pilgrims. He was injured and admitted to a nearby hospital.
Earlier, at around 11 am, another accident involving a pilgrim vehicle was reported at Madukku Junction. The accident occurred when the pilgrim vehicle collided with a private bus.
The series of accidents caused traffic disruption along the route for some time.
With the Sabarimala pilgrimage season seeing increased movement of vehicles and pilgrims along the route, motorists are advised to exercise extra caution while driving. Drivers should maintain a safe speed, remain alert at junctions and crowded areas, and follow traffic rules to help prevent accidents and ensure the safety of pilgrims, local residents and other road users.
