Four Arrested for Attacking Sabarimala Pilgrims in Kottarakkara; Young Child Among Injured

Kollam: Four youths were arrested for allegedly attacking a group of Sabarimala pilgrims, including women and a one-and-a-half-year-old child, at Kottarakkara in Kollam district on Monday night (October 19).

The arrested youths have been identified as Pranav, Shibin, Sharath, and Praveen, all residents of Kottarakkara. Police said they were heavily drunk at the time of the incident.

The incident happened when a family was returning home after Sabarimala darshan. A car carrying the four youths reportedly hit the pilgrims' vehicle. An argument started over damage to the car's rear-view mirror.

The argument soon turned into a fight, and the four youths allegedly attacked the pilgrims, including women and a small child.

A group of fruit sellers passing through the area saw the attack and tried to stop the youths. However, the youths also attacked the fruit sellers.

Local people then intervened and informed the police. Police reached the spot and arrested all four youths.

According to police, the youths continued to shout and challenge officers while being taken to the hospital for a medical examination. Police also found liquor bottles inside their car.

The injured pilgrims, including the toddler, were taken to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital for treatment.

Police have also received video footage of the attack. Further investigation is underway.
