Erumeli: All arrangements for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season in Erumeli will be completed before November 15, following a decision taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) President K. Jayakumar.

Officials from various departments presented updates on preparations to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage season.

The Revenue Department will establish a 24-hour control room under the supervision of the Deputy Collector to coordinate departmental activities. A police control room will also begin functioning opposite the Erumeli Valiyambalam temple on November 15, operating in three shifts under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police.

New employees at commercial establishments must possess identity cards, health cards and police clearance certificates.

A temporary fire station will be established in Erumeli, while 30 KSRTC buses will be deployed for Pampa services. Buses operating from other depots to Pampa will also be routed through Erumeli.

To ensure uninterrupted electricity, special arrangements have been made at the Erumeli 110 kV substation, with backup supply planned from the Ranni and Kanjirappally substations.

The Water Authority will ensure round-the-clock water supply, while shower facilities in front of Valiyambalam will be made operational. The Motor Vehicles Department will conduct 24-hour patrols.

The meeting also discussed clearing a 4.5-acre Forest Department property at Perurthodu to provide resting facilities for pilgrims.

Meanwhile, the Erumeli Mahallu Muslim Jama-ath will arrange drinking water, medical assistance and resting facilities for pilgrims at the Vavar Mosque premises.

Erumeli to Be Recognised as a Major Pilgrim Halt

Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, TDB President K. Jayakumar announced that Erumeli, traditionally described as an Edathavalam (pilgrim transit centre), would henceforth be recognised as a Thavalam (pilgrim halt), reflecting its importance as a major gathering point for Sabarimala devotees.

He said pilgrimage-related arrangements would be implemented with public cooperation. The newly constructed Annadana Mandapam (free food distribution hall) will become operational this season.

Jayakumar also warned that contracts of operators charging excessive parking and toilet fees would be cancelled. He assured that waste would be removed promptly to maintain cleanliness throughout the pilgrimage season.

Devaswom Board members Raju and Santhosh were also present at the meeting.
