Kerala HC Directs Police Probe into Fake Health Cards at Sabarimala; TDB Told to Accept Only Government-Issued Certificates
KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has directed the police to investigate alleged irregularities in issuing health cards to employees working at various establishments at Sabarimala.
A Division Bench comprising Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan V and K.V. Jayakumar directed the Pathanamthitta District Police Chief to ensure a proper investigation into a complaint filed by the Sannidhanam Health Inspector.
The court also directed the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to accept only health certificates issued by government medical officers in Kerala when recruiting employees for Sabarimala establishments.
According to a report submitted by the Sabarimala Special Commissioner, health cards were allegedly issued to employees at two establishments in Sannidhanam and five persons at Nilakkal using a doctor's signature without proper authorisation.
The documents were reportedly circulated through WhatsApp from a mobile number saved as 'Manju Mahima'. The report also alleged that the certificates were issued without conducting medical examinations or blood tests.
The bench directed the police to initiate appropriate legal proceedings if the allegations are established and the involvement of any individuals is confirmed.
It further instructed Health Department inspection teams to verify during routine inspections whether employees at shops and other establishments possess valid health certificates issued in accordance with the Director of Health Services' circular.
The court stressed that strict compliance with these requirements was essential to protect public health and hygiene at Sabarimala, which attracts large numbers of pilgrims during the pilgrimage season.
With these directions, the High Court disposed of the proceedings initiated based on the Special Commissioner's report
