Pinarayi Government Takes Revenge 2018 Sabarimala Protest Case; Chargesheet Names Goa Governor, Ex-MLA

Thiruvananthapuram: The Left-led Pinarayi Kerala government has filed a charge sheet in connection with the Sabarimala protest incident. The charge sheet includes high-profile figures such as Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal, along with other identifiable individuals. The charges pertain to an incident during the 2018 Sabarimala agitation, where a car was allegedly Wrecked using weapons in Mannar.

The case, originally registered in 2018 during the height of the Sabarimala unrest, has now seen action after nearly seven years. The Mannar police have submitted the charge sheet naming PS Sreedharan Pillai as the first accused, followed by O. Rajagopal and others. At the time of the incident, Pillai was a senior BJP leader, and Rajagopal was a sitting MLA and former Union Minister.

This development has sparked widespread criticism, particularly due to the constitutional status of the accused. Former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan and Hindu Aikya Vedi leaders R.V. Babu and K.P. Sashikala Teacher have publicly condemned the government’s action, calling it a politically motivated revenge against respected public figures.

Last week, summons were issued in the case, though none were sent to Sreedharan Pillai due to his position as Governor. Speaking to Media, Pillai denied any involvement, stating that he was not present in Mannar at the time of the incident, and labeled the case as entirely fabricated. He added that the charges lack prima facie evidence and confirmed that he would face the matter legally.
