Pathanamthitta: Widespread protests have erupted following reports of a police officer violating temple traditions at Sabarimala by entering the Sannidhanam wearing shoes. Hindu organizations have demanded strict action against the officer involved.

Footage aired by Janam TV showed the officer, in uniform and with shoes on, standing near the Sopanam steps adjacent to the sanctum. The visuals, captured by devotees from the flyover, were released on last night around 8 p.m.

Devotee groups and Hindu organizations have long criticized the police for not adhering to Sabarimala’s strict ritual codes. They have repeatedly urged both the police leadership and the Travancore Devaswom Board to issue clear guidelines for officers deployed at the shrine.

During the last Mandala season too, controversy broke out after a group of police personnel posed for a photo shoot near the Pathinettam Padi (18 sacred steps), sparking strong protests from devotees.
