Opposition Walks Out of Kerala Assembly Over Missing Sabarimala Gold

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 19: The Congress-led opposition staged a walkout from the Kerala Assembly on Friday after Speaker A. N. Shamseer refused permission to move an adjournment motion on the alleged disappearance of over 4 kg of gold from Sabarimala.

The Speaker said the matter was sub judice and could not be debated in the House. Opposition leader V. D. Satheesan countered that similar issues had been discussed earlier and called the gold loss a “serious concern” for devotees.

As the opposition walked out, ministers M. B. Rajesh and P. Rajeev accused the UDF of trying to sabotage the Global Ayyappa Sangamam on September 20 by raising the issue in collusion with the RSS.

The row follows a Kerala High Court order directing a vigilance probe into the “glaring” reduction of 4.5 kg in the gold cladding of the Dwarapalaka idols, removed for re-plating in 2019.
