Tiger Captured in Vadaserikkara, Ending Two Months of Fear
Residents of Kumbalathamon in Vadaserikkara, Ranni, have found relief after a tiger that had caused fear in the area for nearly two months was captured by the Forest Department on Monday. The animal was trapped in a cage set up along the forest boundary and is reported to be in a weakened condition, with signs of poor vision in one eye.
The tiger was first sighted near a house in Kumbalathamon on September 9. Soon after, it attacked and killed a pet dog, partially consuming the animal before retreating. The repeated sightings and attacks created widespread panic, forcing residents to limit their movements even during daytime.
In October, the tiger killed a buffalo grazing near a residential area, further heightening concerns. Following confirmation of the tiger’s presence through camera surveillance, the Forest Department installed a cage on October 28. Initial efforts to lure the animal were unsuccessful.
On Sunday, the tiger attacked a goat that had been let out to graze. After the carcass was found near the cage, forest officials placed it inside. The tiger entered the cage to feed and was successfully trapped.
With the capture of the tiger, normalcy is gradually returning to the area, bringing much-needed relief to the local community.
