Pandalam: Punartham Naal Narayana Varma Appointed as Representative for the Thiruvabharanam Procession
The Thiruvabharanam was brought to Pandalam following the fire at the Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple in 1903 CE with the help of assistents from kakkat. After the Sabarimala temple was reconstructed, the tradition of conducting the Thiruvabharanam procession from Pandalam was began. However, the Thiruvabharanam of Lord Ayyappa was never permanently returned to the Bhagwan Ayyappa Temple.
The Pandalam Family, former zamindars(Landlords) and Present custodians, continue to oversee the procession. The Valiya Thampuran(Head) of the Pandalam Palace, Thiruvanam Naal Ramavarma Raja, appointed Punartham Naal Narayana Varma as the Representative to lead the Thiruvabharanam procession from Pandalam.
The Pandalam Palace Managing Committee has appointed Sri.Shivankutti swami as Guruswami of the 2026 Thiruvabharanam procession.
