Sabarimala Gold Theft: “Some Media Are Trying to Spread Misleading News,” Says P. S. Prasanth

P. S. Prasanth stated that some media outlets are spreading factually incorrect news in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case. He said that the SIT investigation, being conducted under the supervision of the Kerala High Court, is progressing efficiently, and that the main accused in the case, including Unnikrishnan Potti, have been arrested and remanded in custody.

The investigation is currently focusing on lapses that occurred in 2019. The Vigilance report has clearly pointed out that the Devaswom Board suffered losses due to negligence and violations of rules at that time. The present investigation is being carried out on this basis. However, he clarified that the procedures related to the restoration of the Dwarapalaka sculptures in 2025 were completely transparent and secure.

Under the leadership of the Thiruvabharanam Commissioner, a mahazar was prepared, and with video documentation and in the presence of Devaswom officials, the sculptures were taken to Smart Creations in Chennai and brought back. At no stage was there any opportunity for misappropriation. According to the mahazar records, there has been an increase in both the total weight of the Dwarapalaka sculptures and the quantity of gold. Neither the Devaswom Board nor the gold belonging to Sabarimala has suffered any loss. All procedures were carried out strictly in accordance with the Tantri’s instructions and traditional rituals. He emphasized that neither the Board nor its officials attempted to assist anyone or permit any illegal activities.

He further added that until the SIT investigation under the supervision of the High Court is completed, some media outlets should refrain from spreading false news, and should withdraw from fabricating and circulating such factually incorrect reports.
