Devaswom Vigilance to Check Bank Accounts of Sabarimala Temporary Workers

The Devaswom Vigilance department will examine the bank accounts of daily wage workers who were posted at Sannidhanam during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season. This step comes after suspicions that some workers sent large amounts of money to their homes many times during the pilgrimage period.

Usually, the Devaswom Board pays daily wage workers directly into their bank accounts after the pilgrimage season ends. Officials found it unusual that some workers received or sent large sums of money even before these official payments. Vigilance officers will now check where this money came from.

During the Sabarimala season, many temporary workers are hired on daily wages after police verification. Vigilance officials also received reports that some workers sent large amounts of money to their families and friends through the local post office.

Officials became suspicious after noticing that some of the money carried by workers was mixed with large quantities of bhasma (holy ash). Recently, vigilance teams also seized illegally earned money from a few temporary workers.

Based on these findings, the Devaswom Vigilance has started a detailed inspection of the bank accounts of temporary workers.
