Neither the Devaswom Board Nor the Government Has Any Role at Sabarimala: K. Muraleedharan Says Courts Are Excessively Intervening
Thrissur: Kerala Devaswom Minister K. Muraleedharan has said it is time to reflect on whether there is excessive judicial intervention in temple affairs. He added that he has already initiated a discussion on the issue in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
The minister said that neither the Devaswom Board nor the state government has any real role in matters related to Sabarimala, alleging that the Kerala High Court even decides which flowers should be used for rituals at the temple.
"If the courts intervene in every matter, then what role is left for devotees? At Sabarimala, neither the Devaswom Board nor the government has any role. It is the High Court that decides even which flowers should be used for rituals there. The time has come to consider whether such extensive judicial intervention in temple affairs is necessary. I have already initiated this discussion in the Legislative Assembly. One can speak freely there without fearing anyone. But if you say the same thing outside the Assembly, you risk facing contempt of court proceedings," Muraleedharan said.
