Pandalam Bridge Needs Footpath for Sabarimala Pilgrim Safety, Says Pandalam Palace
Pandalam: The Pandalam Palace has urged authorities to construct a footpath on the narrow bridge in Pandalam to ensure the safety of Sabarimala pilgrims during the upcoming pilgrimage season. The demand was raised before the District Collector during his recent visit to the palace, following which he inspected the bridge.
Pilgrims who park their vehicles at the Kaippuzha ground and walk to the Valiyakoickal Temple face difficulties due to the lack of pedestrian space. During rain, water accumulates along the edges of the bridge, forcing pedestrians towards the middle of the road. When vehicles pass in both directions, there is virtually no space for pedestrians.
Although widening the bridge may be technically difficult, constructing footpaths on both sides could improve safety. Cables and pipelines occupying pedestrian space have also added to the problem. Vehicles have reportedly hit the bridge railing four times.
Government officials had earlier inspected the bridge and recommended providing a footpath. An estimate will be prepared and submitted for funding after the necessary approval is received.
