Pathanamthitta: Temporary structures, including a replica of the Taj Mahal, have been demolished at the Sabarimala Edathavalam parking ground in Pathanamthitta following an order from the Kerala High Court.

The structures were erected by an event management company for an exhibition that began in February 2026. However, the exhibition reportedly suffered financial losses, prompting the organisers to abandon the project without removing the installations.

According to reports, the structures remained at the parking ground for nearly 10 months. The organisers also reportedly owed more than Rs 1 lakh to the Pathanamthitta Municipality.

Despite repeated instructions from the municipality to clear the site, the organisers failed to remove the structures. The matter eventually reached the Kerala High Court, which ordered their demolition.

The demolition was carried out under the supervision of municipal officials Ahmed Hussain, Rajeesh Mohammed, Dinesh, Manoksh and Vinod. Pathanamthitta Municipal Chairperson Sindhu Anil was also present at the site.

The structures had delayed preparations at the Edathavalam parking ground for the upcoming Sabarimala Mandala-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.

With the structures removed, the municipality can now proceed with the necessary arrangements at the parking facility ahead of the pilgrimage season.
