TDB Signs MoU with Clean Kerala Company to Regulate Recyclable Waste at Sabarimala
Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Clean Kerala Company to introduce a regulated system for the collection, removal and disposal of recyclable waste generated at Sabarimala and Pampa from the upcoming pilgrimage season.
The MoU was signed at the TDB headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of TDB President K. Jayakumar. TDB Devaswom Commissioner B. Sunil Kumar and Clean Kerala Company Managing Director G. K. Suresh Kumar signed the agreement on behalf of the two organisations.
Under the new arrangement, the existing practice of auctioning plastic, bottles, metal and other recyclable scrap generated at Sannidhanam and Pampa will be discontinued. The Clean Kerala Company will undertake the collection and removal of the recyclable waste, while the proceeds from the recovered materials will be credited to the TDB’s funds.
The waste-removal operations are expected to begin shortly, ahead of the upcoming pilgrimage season.
The TDB has also decided to entrust the collection and disposal of discarded metal articles and metal scrap from Sabarimala and Pampa to the Clean Kerala Company. A separate agreement for this arrangement will be signed on October 5.
The move will bring the handling of recyclable waste generated in the Sabarimala pilgrimage areas under a more organised and regulated system.
