Woman Dies of Electric Shock After Sabarimala Temple Visit
Pathanamthitta: A 60-year-old woman, E. Bharatamma from Gopalpetta Mandal, Mahbubnagar, Telangana, tragically lost her life due to an electric shock while descending from the Sabarimala temple on May 19, 2025. Bharatamma was part of a 40-member group organized by Sri Balaji Tours and Travels, returning from their temple visit via Neelimala when the incident occurred at Pamba. Eyewitnesses reported that as Bharatamma opened a water pipe at a kiosk near the second shed, she was thrown to the ground by a powerful electric shock. Despite immediate efforts to rush her to Pamba Hospital, she could not be saved.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an electric current had flowed to the kiosk from an iron post, installed by the Devaswom Board,
The tragedy has sparked renewed concerns about the maintenance of electrical infrastructure along the Sabarimala pilgrimage route, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Authorities are investigating to determine the precise cause and prevent future incidents.
