Sabarimala Women’s Entry: High Court Seeks Govt Response on Rahul Easwar’s Case
Kochi- Rahul Easwar, an activist, has approached the Kerala High Court seeking to quash a case filed against him by the Alappuzha South Police, accusing him of inciting violence during a television channel discussion on the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding women’s entry into the Sabarimala temple. Justice V.G. Arun, hearing the petition, has sought an explanation from the state government.
The case stems from a statement made by Easwar during the discussion, where he reportedly said, “Women can enter Sabarimala only by stepping over my chest.” The police registered the case, alleging that this remark amounted to a call for violence. A chargesheet was subsequently filed in the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.
In his petition, Easwar argues that his statement did not constitute an incitement to violence and has urged the court to dismiss the case and halt further proceedings.
