Sabarimala’s Niraputhari Mahotsavam Rescheduled to July 30, 2025,

 

The sacred hill shrine of Sabarimala will celebrate its Niraputhari Mahotsavam earlier than anticipated, now set for July 30, 2025. Team Sabarimala Uptodate (Sabarimala Ayyappa Yuva Seva Samithi) confirmed the rescheduled date following discussions with Malikkapuram Melsanthi, Sree Vasudevan Namboothiri conveyed that the royal family of Travancore in consultation with temple authorities, finalized July 30, 2025, for the festival, The festival has been advanced due to the early growth of crops this season, allowing for an earlier harvest of rice/paddy to be offered to Lord Ayyappa.

The Niraputhari Mahotsavam marks the offering of newly harvested rice/paddy to Lord Ayyappa, symbolizing gratitude for a bountiful harvest. The term Niraputhari comes from two Malayalam words — Nira, meaning “full” or “abundance,” and Puthari, meaning “new rice.”

This festival is typically observed in the Malayalam month of Karkadakam, often referred to as the Ramayana month, a time considered highly auspicious for spiritual reflection and temple observances.
