Sabarimala’s Traditional Neelimala Path Reopens for Pilgrims
Sabarimala – The revered Neelimala path, a traditional route for pilgrims visiting the sacred Sabarimala temple, will reopen on July 11 after being temporarily closed due to hazardous conditions. Heavy rainfall during the Mithunam month poojas had rendered the path slippery, leading to several incidents of pilgrims sustaining injuries from falls.
To ensure the safety of devotees, the Devaswom Board has undertaken significant measures to improve the path’s accessibility. The smooth stone surfaces along the route, spanning from Neelimala to Appachimedu, Sabaripeetham, and Marakkoottam, have been meticulously chiseled to create a rougher texture, reducing the risk of slips and falls. These enhancements aim to provide a safer and more secure trekking experience for pilgrims embarking on the sacred journey to the Sabarimala shrine.
The reopening of the Neelimala path coincides with a series of significant events at Sabarimala, including the consecration of the newly constructed Navagraha temple and the Karkadaka month poojas. Pilgrims planning to traverse this traditional route are encouraged to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines, particularly during the monsoon season.
