2014 Sabarimala Devaprashnam’s Jail Prediction Gains Attention After Gold Theft Case

Thiruvananthapuram: The Devaprashnam (astrological ritual) conducted at Sabarimala in 2014, which predicted imprisonment for the temple’s administrators, has now gained attention following the gold theft case. The 2014 Devaprashnam revealed dangers, litigation, defamation, and imprisonment for those associated with the temple. It was in this Devaprashnam that a recommendation was made to replace the temple’s flagstaff (kodimaram). It also stated that no alteration should be made to the existing Pathinettam Padi (the sacred eighteen steps), but permission was given to construct handrails for devotees to hold while climbing.

The Devaprashnam was conducted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Based on the findings of this ritual, the Sabarimala flagstaff was rebuilt in 2017. It warned that everyone working in connection with the temple must be extremely cautious. The Devaprashnam indicated the possibility of danger, disputes, loss of reputation, and imprisonment.

Those who were closely involved with the Sabarimala temple at the time of the Devaprashnam are now in jail in connection with the gold theft case. The Devaprashnam also issued a warning that those associated with the temple should be very careful. It is being argued that the consequences now being faced by others are the result of carelessly allowing people like Unnikrishnan Potti to enter Sabarimala.

Cheruvalli Narayanan Namboothiri, Kootanad Ravunnippanicker, and Thrikkunnappuzha Udayakumar conducted the Devaprashnam at Sabarimala. According to Hindu belief, a Devaprashnam is performed either to determine whether anything harmful to the deity of a temple has taken place there, or to find out whether any proposed reforms or changes to be carried out in the temple are acceptable and pleasing to the deity.
